Overview

This is a senior leadership opportunity to lead and direct the Australian Energy Regulator. The successful candidate will be responsible for driving performance and accountability across the agency.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic leadership and direction for the AER, aligning activities with its approved plan.
  • Develop and manage the AER's annual operational strategy, ensuring activities are conducted within approved parameters and aligned with strategic priorities.
  • Lead and empower the senior leadership team, fostering a high-performing culture and supervising performance.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Chair, providing timely communication of developments requiring board-level action.
  • Oversee strategic planning, identifying objectives and strategies to achieve the AER's approved goals.

The ideal candidate will have executive-level management experience, a proven track record of leadership in a dynamic environment, and understanding of government and regulatory operations. Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, along with effective communication and interpersonal skills, are essential for this role.

Additionally, the successful candidate will have knowledge of Australian electricity and gas markets and the role, purpose, and objectives of the AER. Proven ability to manage performance against budget, organisational change, risk, and innovation is also highly valued.
