Job Summary:

The Utility System Specialist Trainee position is an entry-level role that assists with the repair, installation, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility system lines and lift stations.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Perform service work assisting with the repair, installation, and maintenance of water, wastewater, and reclaimed water utility system lines and lift stations.
  • Work on plumbing, construction, or mechanical repair and/or maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment.
  • Maintain a valid Florida driver's license and ensure it remains active during employment.
  • Obtain a Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Maintenance of Traffic (MOT)/Temporary Traffic Control (TTC) Basic Flagger certification within six months and maintain it during employment.
  • Pursue a Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Water Distribution System Operator Level 3 license or Wastewater Collection Technician Level 3 certification within eighteen months and maintain it during employment.
Requirements:
  • A high school diploma or equivalent is required.
  • Six months of experience in plumbing, construction, or mechanical repair and/or maintenance of industrial mechanical equipment are required.
  • Physical capability to wear and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE), including respiratory protection, is essential.
Working Conditions:
  1. Employees will work at heights, below ground level, in cold, damp, hot, humid, dusty, noisy, or hazardous environments, and with chemicals, electricity, fumes, and other hazards.
  2. May work alone or with others, inside or outside, on ladders or scaffolding, and on uneven surfaces.
