About the Role

The State of Queensland is seeking a highly skilled and experienced Professional Conduct Lawyer to join our team. As a key member of our Legal Services Commission, you will play a critical role in assessing, investigating, and reviewing complaints, as well as recommending action to the Commissioner.

Key Responsibilities
  • Client Management: Communicate effectively with a wide range of internal and external clients, including senior members of the legal profession, clients, and members of the public.
  • Complaint Assessment: Assess and advise on complaints about conduct within legislated time frames.
  • Investigation and Resolution: Negotiate resolutions, investigate, and review the conduct of lawyers, law practice employees, unlawful operators, and other persons within our jurisdiction, and recommend action to the Commissioner.
  • Proactive Conduct: Identify apparent inappropriate conduct and recommend that the Commissioner initiate 'own motion' investigations where warranted.
  • Investigatory Functions: Assess, investigate, and recommend action on identified audit issues, relevant conduct, and complaints, and prepare matters for disciplinary and other enforcement action as appropriate.
  • Mentorship: Mentor more junior members of your team, including regular one-on-ones, monitoring work progress, and relieving bottlenecks.
  • Regulatory Litigation: Contribute to the preparation of regulatory litigation, including discipline applications, summary offence prosecutions, and other enforcement action brought by the Commissioner.
  • Additional Duties: Discharge other duties as directed from time to time, including assisting other teams of the Commission, recommending improvements to policies and procedures, and contributing to project, research, policy, and educational activities.
