Job Description

The Melbourne Arts Precinct Transformation involves the delivery of a significant cultural infrastructure project, overseeing the governance and operational structure of Fed Square.

MAP Co leads the transformation, delivering The Fox: NGV Contemporary and rejuvenating Arts Centre Melbourne (ACM), connected by 18,000sqm of green public space.

It also manages and operates Fed Square, connecting a single continuous art, civic, and cultural precinct stretching from Fed Square through Southbank.

Once complete, MAP Co will manage and activate Laak Boorndap, an 18,000 urban garden connecting the Melbourne Arts Precinct in a seamless cultural experience.

Fed Square is the gateway to the art precinct – the civic, cultural, and community heart of the city.

It is home to four major cultural institutions: ACMI – Australia's Museum of Screen Culture, the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT), Melbourne Electronic Sound Studio (MESS) and The Ian Potter Centre: NGV Australia, along with restaurants and cafes.

Located opposite iconic Flinders St Station, it is Melbourne's premier meeting place, tourist destination, and event venue for thousands of free events annually.

About the Role

This senior leadership role shapes the future of Melbourne's public and cultural landmark.

Overseeing operations, assets, and annual capital works at Fed Square, you'll drive strategy, manage property and tenancies, ensuring outstanding cultural, commercial, and community outcomes.

This is a rare opportunity to lead one of Melbourne's most high-profile public spaces with impact and vision.

Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities:
  • Bring proven senior leadership in precinct or asset management with expertise in property, tenancy, operational excellence, and capital works projects.
  • Demonstrate strength in stakeholder engagement, commercial acumen, and negotiation, backed by strategic thinking and a proven track record in delivery.
Desired Experience/Qualifications:
  • 5+ years at senior leadership level with expertise in operations, property, or asset management.
  • Tertiary qualifications in business, project, or facilities management are highly regarded, with postgraduate studies a plus.
  • Strong commercial and financial skills are essential.
Position Specific Requirements:
  • The role spans diverse responsibilities including property and tenancy management, contract oversight, asset and facilities management, and delivery of the annual capital works program.
  • Success means balancing strategic vision with hands-on operational leadership, working across cultural institutions, hospitality partners, tenants, contractors, and government agencies.
  • A strong understanding of compliance obligations (OHS, Building, and Environmental codes) is essential to ensure the safe and sustainable operation of this iconic public space.
