Child Safety Officer Role Summary

We are seeking a skilled and dedicated Child Safety Officer to join our team. In this role, you will play a crucial part in delivering statutory child protection services, including assessment, intervention, casework and case management.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Provide high-quality integrated child protection services for complex cases, respecting the culture and context of each child, young person, family and community.
  • Undertake strengths-based child protection practice, including assessment, intervention, casework, and complex case management as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
  • Maintain productive working relationships with colleagues, stakeholders, children, young people and families, Non-Government Organisations (NGOs), and other service providers.
  • Foster a culture of quality frontline service delivery based on collaboration, cooperation, commitment to excellence and professional ethics.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date case records in accordance with departmental requirements.
  • Pursue continuous learning, training and professional development to maintain contemporary and evidence-based practice knowledge and skills.
  • Contribute to ongoing quality improvement strategies.
  • Offer coaching and mentoring to new and less experienced Child Safety Officers to enhance their skills and knowledge.
  • Maintain cultural capability, commit to self-directed learning regarding Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures, and contribute to a culturally safe and inclusive workplace.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in child protection or a related field.
  • Strong understanding of child safety principles and practices.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Able to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
