Research Scientist Opportunity

We are seeking a highly skilled Research Scientist to join our team in the field of neurodegeneration research.

This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research focused on developing life-changing treatments for glaucoma and other optic nerve diseases that cause irreversible blindness.

The successful candidate will be part of the Axon Degeneration Laboratory, led by Dr Andrea Loreto, which focuses on understanding how metabolic dysfunction and ageing contribute to optic nerve degeneration.

  • Conduct original research in NAD biology and axon degeneration, with a focus on drug discovery and optic nerve diseases.
  • Lead projects independently and as part of a team.
  • Collaborate with teams across the Snow Vision Accelerator and actively contribute to its mission.
  • Disseminate research findings through peer-reviewed publications and conference presentations.
  • Provide informal mentoring and guidance to junior team members, including undergraduate and PhD students.
  • Foster a positive and inclusive workplace culture that values diversity of thought, collaboration, excellence, and outcome-driven work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement innovative research strategies to advance the understanding of axon degeneration and NAD biology.
  • Design and execute experiments to test hypotheses and collect data.
  • Analyze and interpret results, identifying patterns and trends.
  • Present research findings at conferences and meetings, as well as publish in reputable scientific journals.

Requirements:

  • PhD in Neuroscience, Ophthalmology, Vision Sciences, or a related field.
  • Experience working with iPSC-derived neuronal cultures and primary neurons.
  • Experience with mouse models of neurodegeneration.
  • Expertise in axon degeneration and NAD biology.
  • Excellent interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in a team setting.
  • Proven record of producing original, high-quality research that has resulted in peer-reviewed academic publications.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills, meticulous attention to detail, and the ability to set priorities and meet deadlines.
