Senior Case Manager Position Overview
Job Description:The Senior Case Manager will be responsible for managing a mixed caseload of children authorized to VACCA and leading investigations into new child protection reports.
This role requires assessing and making recommendations on child protection needs, collaborating with families and communities to ensure safety and wellbeing.
Culturally safe therapeutic approaches will be applied to support healing and resilience for children and families who have experienced trauma.
Safety and care plans will be developed and reviewed for children and young people, including risk identification and mitigation.
Accurate case notes, reports, and other documentation will be prepared requiring clear audience-specific language.
Collaboration with other service providers and stakeholders will be required to achieve positive outcomes.
Leadership and mentoring within the team will be provided, as well as support for the Team Leader during high-demand periods.
Maintenance of compliance with legislations, policy, and practice requirements related to Aboriginal children, families, and communities will be ensured.
About You:- Demonstrated commitment to VACCA's vision and purpose is essential.
- Understanding of Aboriginal societies and cultures, with ongoing learning in this area, is required.
- Strong communication and negotiation skills, culturally appropriate interpersonal skills including active listening and empathy, are necessary.
- Experience with complex cases involving trauma and challenging behaviours, use of culturally safe approaches, is expected.
- Knowledge of child development, attachment, and trauma as they relate to Aboriginal children is required.
- Understanding of relevant legislation, policy, and practice requirements related to Aboriginal children, families, and communities is necessary.
- Experience with investigations, interview techniques, and documenting evidence is required.
- Ability to assess risks and develop, implement, and review plans for children and young people is essential.
- Ability to prepare accurate documents and reports that meet audience needs is necessary.
- Ability to collaborate with police, courts, and other service providers to achieve outcomes is required.
- Resilience in a fast-paced, multi-disciplinary team environment, commitment to self-care and team wellbeing, is expected.
- Ability to lead and mentor staff within the team and support the Team Leader as needed is necessary.
- A recognised social work degree or diploma of community services is required; valid Police Check; Working with Children's Check (or willingness to obtain); Victorian Driver Licence; current COVID-19 vaccination (strongly recommended).
