About the Role

This is an exciting opportunity for a senior nurse to undertake a Permanent Full Time ongoing position for Wombat ward. As a key member of our leadership team in the Division of Medicine, you will oversee the operations, clinical and professional governance for the ward.

In this role, you will effectively lead and manage the team to provide clinical care and expertise in the areas of Allergy and Immunology, Hematology, Endocrinology, and Rehabilitation. You will be responsible for enabling a positive work environment and ensuring the delivery of high-quality patient and family-centered care, contributing to the RCH's operational excellence framework.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide active and visible leadership to support safe, high-quality, evidence-based nursing care.
  • Manage unit/ward/service operations to ensure ongoing financial sustainability and service delivery efficiencies by maintaining the budget, driving process improvements, and implementing strategic initiatives.
  • Ensure completion of regular performance evaluations to provide constructive feedback and identify opportunities for professional growth and development of nurses within the team.
  • Foster a culture of continuous quality improvement and build capacity within the team to recognize and undertake improvement opportunities.
  • Act as a positive role model and uphold professional conduct.
Requirements
  • Current registration as a Registered Nurse with the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA) administered through the Australian Health Practitioner Regulation Agency (AHPRA).
  • Demonstrated commitment to ongoing personal and professional development, as evidenced in a Continuing Professional Development (CPD) record/Professional Practice Portfolio (PPP).
  • Management/leadership experience.
  • Relevant postgraduate qualification or working towards.
  • Education or training in leadership and management is desirable.

Wombat is a 16-bed medical unit providing high-quality, family-centered care for all ages from infants to adolescents. The unit provides expert care across many medical specialties: Allergy and Immunology, Hematology, Endocrinology, and Rehabilitation. Wombat supports acute and elective admissions, optimizing health outcomes through care provision, education, and multi-disciplinary care coordination.
