Job Role: Animal Care Specialist

The ideal candidate for this role will be responsible for ensuring the highest standards of animal care and well-being in our wildlife park. Working closely with senior staff, this position involves maintaining and developing exhibits to a high standard, providing exceptional customer service to visitors, and educating them about native Australian flora and fauna.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with senior staff to develop and implement daily routines that promote animal welfare and safety.
  • Work closely with colleagues to ensure accountability for daily reporting and compliance purposes.
  • Ensure the safety of animals, visitors, and staff by following strict policies and procedures.
  • Stay up-to-date with husbandry and training information regarding the animals in the wildlife park collection.
  • Perform tasks such as collecting food and supplies when required.
  • Report any animal welfare or illness concerns to relevant personnel.
  • Assist with front-of-house duties, adhering to strict hygiene standards and preventing cross-contamination.
  • Coach and assist colleagues on animal care and procedures.
  • Comply with all applicable laws, rules, and regulations.

Requirements:

  • Valid driver's license (essential).
  • At least two years' experience working with native animals, preferably specializing in koalas, reptiles, or macropods.
  • Tertiary qualifications in animal husbandry/zoology or relevant experience/qualifications in captive animal management.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and team-building skills.
  • Prior guest-facing and communication skills, with the ability to deliver informative guided tours.
  • Current first aid certification.
