The position of Underground Mining Drilling Specialist is a critical role within the mining industry, requiring an individual with extensive experience in operating mechanized longhole drilling rigs. The successful candidate will be responsible for drilling blast holes as per design specifications, interpreting and executing drill plans to ensure accurate placement of holes, and conducting thorough pre-start inspections and routine maintenance to guarantee equipment safety and operational effectiveness.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Operating mechanized longhole drilling rigs to drill blast holes as per design specifications
  • Interpreting and executing drill plans to ensure accurate placement of holes
  • Conducting thorough pre-start inspections and routine maintenance to guarantee equipment safety and operational effectiveness
  • Troubleshooting and resolving operational issues promptly to minimize downtime
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams to coordinate drilling activities
  • Maintaining accurate records of drilling activities and equipment maintenance

To be successful in this role, candidates must possess:

  • A minimum of 2 years previous underground mining experience
  • Physical fitness and ability to handle manual tasks in challenging conditions
  • A valid manual driver's license and ability to operate underground vehicles with relevant RPLs
  • Strong knowledge of underground mining regulations, procedures, and dangerous goods cards
  • Ability to work in confined spaces and physically demanding conditions
  • Ability to follow strict procedures and safety standards
