Communications Specialist Role

They will also be able to create impactful content and support media relations to promote disaster resilience and readiness.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategic Communication Development: Develop and deliver strategic communication initiatives that keep SES members informed, motivated, and aligned with organisational goals.
  • Media Relations and Content Creation: Support media relations, create impactful content, and engage with communities to promote disaster resilience and readiness, and the vital role of SES volunteers.
  • Stakeholder Engagement: Foster collaboration with SES members, stakeholders, and the wider Queensland Police Service communication network through expertise in communications and relationship-building.
Core Capability Requirements
  • Internal Communication Delivery: Support the delivery of key internal communication tactics such as intranet, e-newsletters, email updates, Town Halls, internal social media and other channels to ensure timely and effective dissemination of information.
  • Communication Materials Development: Develop and write communication and marketing materials for events, publications, online platforms, presentations, and media releases.
  • Corporate Communication Support: Prepare and write corporate communication material, talking points, and briefing material for use by State Emergency Service executives.
  • Content Management: Manage content on internal and external online platforms.
  • Stakeholder and Community Engagement: Provide expertise in a range of stakeholder and community engagement using traditional and emerging channels.
  • Marketing and Promotion: Identify proactive opportunities to market and promote the State Emergency Service and engage with communities to increase disaster resilience.
  • Relationship Building: Represent the Volunteer Services unit and build and maintain effective relationships with key stakeholders including Queensland Police Service communication colleagues to achieve positive outcomes.
  • Training and Development: Provide training to State Emergency Service volunteers and staff involved in communication activities.
