The position of Aboriginal Mental Health Clinician plays a pivotal role in delivering culturally competent and person-centered services to individuals experiencing mental illness, distress, or risk issues.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Must be of Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander descent and possess a deep understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander cultures with established connections within the local Aboriginal community.
  • Possess relevant tertiary qualifications such as Bachelor of Health Science (Mental Health) or current registration with AHPRA for Registered Nurses, Occupational Therapists, Psychologists, or eligibility for membership of the Australian Association of Social Workers for Social Workers.
  • Demonstrate high-quality, safe, and connected care delivery to consumers and their families and carers through a strengths-based approach that promotes self-determination.
  • Utilize advanced communication skills to engage and collaborate with consumers, their families and carers, and other stakeholders.
  • Excel in computer skills, including accuracy and proficiency in Electronic Medical Record Programs and Microsoft Office applications, including Skype for business.
  • Demonstrate comprehensive knowledge and understanding of Mental Health & Alcohol and Other Drugs strategic directions in service provision, including those related to Aboriginal People and their communities.
  • Maintain awareness of legislation and policies governing Mental Health care provision, including the Mental Health Act 2007.
  • Possess an unrestricted driver's license and willingness to drive/travel as required, which may involve long distances and overnight stays.

This role requires a unique blend of clinical expertise, cultural competence, and interpersonal skills to provide exceptional care to Aboriginal and non-Aboriginal individuals.
