Portfolio Manager, Data Center Infrastructure Optimization

The role of Field Engineering Portfolio Engineer is a key position within our organization, responsible for managing the lifecycle of our data centers from design to decommissioning. This involves collaborating with cross-functional teams to identify and mitigate availability risks, developing standards and processes for tracking and reporting risks, and preparing narratives for executive leadership on decision points related to cost, timing, and strategic trade-offs.
As a Field Engineering Portfolio Engineer, you will lead multi-discipline teams to optimize the Field Engineering portfolio, meeting ever-evolving customer needs as we expand our data center fleet to hyper-scale. The ideal candidate possesses strong engineering judgment, providing recommendations despite uncertainty, and is detail and data-oriented, with experience managing engineering projects and building trust and relationships with stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement lifecycle management strategies for data centers, ensuring alignment between engineering, operations, procurement, legal, finance, and other partner stakeholder teams.
- Full ownership of risk identification, mitigation, and resolution, including the development of standards and processes for tracking and reporting risks.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to drive process improvements and automation, enhancing team efficiency and visibility of portfolio efforts to critical stakeholders and leadership.
- Prepare narratives for executive leadership on decision points related to cost, timing, and strategic trade-offs.
- Capture, share, and leverage technical program management best practices with other product and program managers in Data Center Engineering.
- Stay up-to-date on AWS data center lifecycle specific to Data Center Engineering, globally.
A day in the life as a Field Engineering Portfolio Engineer would be leading teams to optimize the Field Engineering portfolio, working collaboratively across organizational boundaries to ensure the success of our data centers.
Qualifications- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
- 3+ cumulative years of experience with industrial or commercial engineering or project management in Mission Critical facilities, including but not limited to: data centers, power generation, oil / gas facilities.
- Experience with global portfolio/program management working with cross-functional teams.
- Possess excellent communication and writing skills, attention to detail, and high quality standards.
- Basic understanding of both mechanical and electrical equipment/design related to data centers (including but not limited to uninterruptable power supplies, diesel generators, electrical switchgear, power distribution units, variable frequency drives).
