Job Description:

We are seeking an experienced Operations Maintenance Specialist to join our team at Southern Metropolitan Cemeteries Trust in Melbourne.

About the Role:

The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining and presenting one of our unique open spaces in Melbourne's South East, working closely with the Operations Leader and Horticulture Team.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Maintain and improve the presentation of our open spaces through regular tasks such as pruning, weeding, irrigating, mulching, fertilising, mowing, spraying, and planting.
  • Operate plant and equipment including ride on mowers, brush cutters and powered gardening equipment, manual and mechanical tools, utility vehicles, small trucks, and tractors.
  • Assist the Horticulture Team with key responsibilities such as gravedigging operations and preparation of burial sites.
  • Work safely and competently in accordance with work schedules, seasonal operations, occupational health and safety legislation, codes of practices and industry standards.
Requirements:
  • Certificate III (or above) in Horticulture or demonstrated experience in a similar role.
  • Current Victorian driver's licence (manual would be advantageous).
  • Well-developed skills in the safe and competent operation of plant and equipment, including safe and competent handling of horticultural chemicals.
  • Excellent work ethic with the ability to work in a fast-paced, agile environment.
