The Role:
As a Food Research Scientist at Vow Group, you will utilize your extensive knowledge of food science to develop meat alternatives that appeal to traditional meat consumers.
Your primary focus will be on conducting application-oriented research that enhances our ability to manipulate texture, flavor, and the overall sensory profile of our products.
Your Responsibilities:
- Lead initial research initiatives aimed at establishing foundational knowledge in materials, ingredients, formulation science, food processing, and innovative technologies, particularly for textured meat products derived from cultured cells.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams, including biologists, engineers, and culinary professionals, to foster product innovation and development.
- Utilize your expertise in functional ingredients and advanced processing methods to improve food texture.
- Create innovative concepts, prototypes, and formulations suitable for high-end culinary establishments, health-conscious consumers, and retail markets.
- Design and implement experiments to assess and validate new processing techniques and ingredients.
- Stay informed about the latest trends in food science and technology, applying new insights to enhance product quality and operational efficiency.
- Contribute to the development of intellectual property through patent submissions and scholarly publications.
Qualifications and Skills:
- A degree in a relevant scientific field, ideally a master's or PhD, specializing in Materials Science, Food Science, or a related discipline.
- A proven history of innovation and problem-solving within research or industrial environments.
- Over 3 years of experience in food science research and development, whether in industry or academia.
- A solid understanding of food chemistry, texture modification, and sensory evaluation.
- Demonstrated ability to manipulate food structures through ingredient and processing techniques.
- Experience in characterizing food ingredients and formulations, including microscopy and texture analysis, with the ability to relate findings to sensory experiences.
- Proficiency in experimental design, data interpretation, and statistical analysis.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary team.
- A commitment to fostering positive change within the food sector.
Success Metrics:
- Within three months, you will have significantly contributed to an ongoing food research project by developing expertise, conducting experiments, and enhancing the knowledge base related to food texture in prototypes.
- Within six months, you will have evaluated a novel process for Vow Group, demonstrating its potential to create appealing products and how to manage it for desirable outcomes. You will be recognized as a vital team member, offering unique insights into product development.
- Within twelve months, you will have established a pipeline of new ingredients and processes for exploration, managing multiple projects through various stages of our development cycle, and pioneering new areas of knowledge specific to Vow Group.
