Our team is seeking a skilled Bushfire Operations Coordinator to join our organization. This role offers a unique opportunity to make a real difference in the community while working with a talented team of professionals.

As a Bushfire Operations Coordinator, you will be responsible for providing operational support and leadership to local brigades, ensuring they have the resources and expertise needed to effectively protect their communities. You will work closely with volunteers, other stakeholders, and your supervisor to achieve shared goals and objectives.

The ideal candidate will have excellent communication and interpersonal skills, as well as the ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. You will also possess a strong understanding of bushfire management principles and practices, particularly in a volunteer environment. Experience working with volunteers or within a volunteer organization would be highly desirable.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Respond to rural fires and other emergency incidents to provide operational support, mentoring, and leadership on-site or in incident control centers.
  • Support operational preparedness, which may include maintaining heavy plant registers and conducting station, equipment, and fleet audits to ensure operational capability and capacity across the area.
  • Assist Bushfire Mitigation Officers with local bushfire mitigation activities, including identifying bushfire risks, providing basic mitigation advice to landowners, and supporting community education.
  • In collaboration with the Operational Capability Coordinator, assist brigades with planning, procuring, operationalizing, maintaining, and disposing of catalogue and non-catalogue equipment items.
  • Support the execution of fleet and station maintenance plans to ensure assets are available for planned maintenance and disposal, and assist with managing unplanned maintenance activities.
  • Attend Rural Fire Brigade and/or Group meetings to provide timely updates, expert advice, assist with early resolution of issues, and support brigade governance requirements.
  • Assist with training coordination, delivery, and facilitation across the area, district, and region to ensure training needs and gaps for volunteers are identified and rectified as appropriate.

Please note that this position requires the ability to participate out of hours (night or weekends) shift roster during disaster operations and may involve travel and deployment within the state and region.
