Legal Officer Role

As a Legal Officer, you will be responsible for undertaking advocacy and substitute decision-making for adults with impaired decision-making capacity. You will also support other delegated officers in their roles.

  • Ensure clients are legally represented and provide instructions to legal representatives;
  • Maintain positive working relationships with clients, legal representatives, services providers, and stakeholders;
  • Advocate for compliance with legislative principles and organisational guidance;
  • Attend litigation events, including the Queensland Civil and Administrative Tribunal, Magistrates, District and Supreme Courts, Mental Health Review Tribunal, and family law courts.

Key Skills and Qualifications

The successful candidate will have:

  • A strong understanding of relevant legislation, including the Public Guardian Act 2000, Guardianship and Administration Act 2000, and Powers of Attorney Act 1998;
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills;
  • The ability to build and sustain positive relationships with team members and stakeholders;
  • Proficiency in creating and maintaining records, including client records.
