Aboriginal Youth Worker Role

The primary function of the Aboriginal Youth Worker is to provide targeted support and interventions for at-risk and vulnerable Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander young people.

This involves working closely with these young people, their families, and relevant community networks to deliver programs that cater to their individual needs and circumstances.

Key aspects of the role include:

  • Providing one-on-one mentoring and guidance to help young people achieve their personal and educational goals;
  • Developing and implementing culturally appropriate programs and activities that promote social cohesion and community engagement;
  • Collaborating with other service providers and stakeholders to ensure seamless referrals and support pathways;
  • Engaging with community members and leaders to build trust and strengthen relationships.

The successful candidate will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills, as well as a deep understanding of the complexities and challenges faced by Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities. A Cert IV Youth Work qualification or equivalent is required, along with a willingness to continue learning and growing in this field.
