Job Overview

The Senior Underwriter plays a crucial role in the mortgage lending process, responsible for underwriting and clearing conditions for Agency and/or Non-Agency loans.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Maintain high productivity levels while meeting pipeline standards within established guidelines.
  • Analyze and assess risk for initial credit decisions, utilizing company checklists, internal guides, and external agency requirements.
  • Communicate errors and missing information to team members via email and telephone.
  • Update condition sheets in Encompass with applicable conditions.
  • Review resubmissions as items are gathered and submitted by colleagues.
  • Issue final approvals, uploading necessary documentation into Encompass with appropriate signatures.
  • Collaborate with internal departments on stipulations for closed files.

Qualifications and Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of education/experience.
  • SAR and/or DE, preferred.
  • Minimum 5 years of mortgage underwriting experience, preferred.
  • Working knowledge of mortgage banking software, loan processing, purchase, and refinance transactions.
  • Experience underwriting USDA and Bond programs, beneficial.
  • Excellent customer service, communication, problem-solving, and time management skills.
