Are you passionate about helping to plan a greener future for Canberra? We are seeking an experienced professional to join our team as the Urban Treescapes Director, Policy and Planning. In this role, you will be responsible for guiding strategic policy, urban planning and development projects that relate to the management of the public urban forest to support a liveable city and the natural environment.

The Urban Treescapes Director, Policy and Planning will provide expert advice on tree-related matters and contribute to the development of best practice urban design options to protect and enhance Canberra's urban forest. This is a senior leadership role within the City and Environment Directorate, requiring a person who can inspire, energise, and positively influence team and individual outcomes.

This position requires a high level of expertise in forestry, urban forestry, landscape architecture, or urban park management. You will be working with a diverse team of professionals to deliver the actions and outcomes in the Urban Forest Strategy. As a senior leader, you will supervise, manage, and motivate a team, providing appropriate support and guidance. Effective employee engagement skills are essential for success in this role.

Please see attached Position Description for details of the duties to be undertaken. The successful candidate will have a degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Park Management, or equivalent, and a valid driver's licence Class C (Car).

  • A degree in Forestry, Urban Forestry, Landscape Architecture, or Urban Park Management, or the equivalent in a related discipline, or currently undertaking a related qualification.
  • A valid driver's licence Class C (Car).
Benefits

This is a temporary position available for a period of six months. Opportunities for flexible working options could include hybrid working, part-time hours, job-sharing, flexible start, and finish times.

An order of merit pool will be established from this selection process and may be used to fill vacancies over the next 12 months.
