Core Responsibilities:

  • Facility Upkeep: Execute general upkeep of facilities and grounds that do not necessitate specialized skills.
  • Preventative Maintenance and Minor Repairs: Carry out non-specialist preventative maintenance and minor repairs to educational buildings.
  • Diverse Maintenance Tasks: Manage a range of maintenance responsibilities, ensuring the educational facilities remain in optimal condition.
  • Event Preparation: Oversee the school environment and arrange necessary furniture and equipment for events such as assemblies and parent-teacher meetings, including heavy lifting in line with safety regulations.
  • Collaboration and Independence: Work effectively with the maintenance team and independently on assigned tasks without direct oversight.
  • Communication Skills: Interact with staff, students, and tradespeople to ensure seamless operations.
  • Staff Guidance: Supervise and assist other support staff in their responsibilities.
  • Commitment to Safety: Uphold a strong dedication to Occupational Health and Safety standards, ensuring a secure and professional working environment.

Key Duties:

  • Handyperson tasks
  • Basic carpentry work
  • Lock repairs
  • Gutter and drain cleaning, including roof access
  • Furniture relocation and repairs
  • Building and room assessments
  • Painting tasks
  • Preventative maintenance inspections
  • Grounds upkeep (trimming trees, litter and leaf removal)
  • Assist in emergency situations, such as broken windows, minor damages, graffiti removal, and cleaning

Additional duties may be assigned by the Principal, Facilities Manager, or Business Manager as required.

Qualifications:

  • Skills: Proven experience as a handyperson or tradesperson, preferably with carpentry or gardening skills
  • Essential: Valid Working with Children Check (WWCC)
  • Availability: Full-time Monday to Friday, with availability during school term holiday breaks, plus 6 weeks of annual leave
  • Safety Standards: Adhere to appropriate workplace safety standards, including equipment maintenance
  • Compliance: Fulfill relevant Occupational Health and Safety requirements as per educational department standards
