Janitorial Services Job Description

The ideal candidate will be responsible for maintaining the cleanliness and organization of our facility.

  1. Clean building floors by sweeping, mopping, scrubbing, or vacuuming them. Ensure that all floors are free from dirt, dust, and other debris.
  2. Gather and empty trash. This includes disposing of waste in designated receptacles and keeping the surrounding areas clean.
  3. Service, clean, and supply restrooms. Restock toilet paper, soap, and paper towels as needed.
  4. Clean and polish furniture and fixtures. Use a gentle cleaning solution to remove dirt and grime without damaging surfaces.
  5. Clean windows, glass partitions, and mirrors using soapy water or other cleaners, sponges, and squeegees.
  6. Dust furniture, walls, machines, and equipment. Remove dust and cobwebs from all surfaces using a soft cloth or duster.
  7. Adjust and minor repairs to heating, cooling, ventilating, plumbing, and electrical systems. Notify management if any issues require attention.
  8. Mix water and detergents or acids in containers to prepare cleaning solutions according to specifications.
  9. Steam-clean or shampoo carpets. Follow manufacturer instructions for use and maintenance.
  10. Strip, seal, finish, and polish floors. Use a floor stripper to remove old finishes and apply new ones as needed.
  11. Clean and restore building interiors damaged by fire, smoke, or water using commercial cleaning equipment.
  12. Clean laboratory equipment such as glassware and metal instruments using solvents, brushes, rags, and power cleaning equipment.
  13. Drive vehicles required to perform or travel to cleaning work including vans, industrial trucks, or industrial vacuum cleaners.
  14. Follow procedures for the use of chemical cleaners and power equipment to prevent damage to floors and fixtures.
  15. Monitor building security and safety by performing tasks such as locking doors after operating hours and checking electrical appliance use to ensure hazards are not created.
  16. Move heavy furniture, equipment, and supplies manually or using hand trucks.
  17. Mow and trim lawns and shrubbery using mowers and hand and power trimmers and clear debris from grounds.
  18. Notify management concerning the need for major repairs or additions to building operating systems.
  19. Requisition supplies and equipment needed for cleaning and maintenance duties.
Required Skills and Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience.
  • 1+ years of janitorial experience with a proven track record of maintaining high standards of cleanliness and organization.
  • Familiarity with cleaning equipment and chemicals.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds and stand for long periods.
  • Basic computer skills and ability to learn software applications.
