Recreation Therapist Role

The Recreation Therapist will provide support to youth aged 12 to 25, utilizing a relationship-based, empowering, trauma-informed, and equity-focused approach.


Key Responsibilities
  • Foster a holistic understanding of youth well-being, guided by the Pan-Canadian Guiding Principles of IYS, social determinants of health, and principles of equity, diversity, inclusion, reconciliation, accessibility, and anti-racism (EDIRAA).
  • Deliver direct service to youth, including collaborating with colleagues, youth, and caregivers to identify suitable youth for support, develop individualized treatment plans, and implement tailored interventions.
  • Conduct, interpret, and utilize standardized assessments of functioning and life skills.

Essential Qualities
  • Ability to work collaboratively with youth, staff, and caregivers.
  • Knowledge of trauma-informed practices, mental health, and addictions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Flexibility and adaptability in working with diverse populations.
