Animal Health Biosecurity Specialist Role Overview

Job Description:

The Animal Health Biosecurity Specialist will play a crucial role in supporting Australia's livestock biosecurity system. This involves developing, implementing, and managing programs to enhance national biosecurity and emergency preparedness.

  • Lead projects to improve disease control strategies and inform strategic decisions through data analysis and reporting.
  • Utilise scientific and technical knowledge to support various activities within the animal health sector.
  • Identify project risks, implement mitigation controls, and manage resources efficiently.
  • Provide expert advice on vaccine banks, animal disease exercises, and emerging biosecurity threats.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, veterinary services, and other key stakeholders to bolster disease control efforts.

The successful candidate will report to the Head of Technical Services and be responsible for coordinating and leading projects that drive positive change in the animal health sector.

Required Skills and Qualifications:

We are seeking an individual with tertiary qualifications in Animal or Veterinary Science or a related discipline. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience in a technical management capacity within animal health or disease control.

  • Strong project/program management skills, with the ability to lead and coordinate complex projects.
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage with diverse stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in relevant software applications, including data analysis and reporting tools.
