Job Description

The successful candidate will be responsible for overseeing all manufacturing and fabrication projects within the workshop, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fit-for-purpose outcomes. This includes coordinating with the maintenance superintendent to schedule and prioritise both manufacturing and service jobs, as well as monitoring workflow and adjusting resource allocation to meet deadlines and optimise productivity.

About the Role
  • We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced engineer/manager who can lead the efficient, safe, and high-quality execution of all workshop activities.
  • The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of Australian Design Rules, compliance requirements, and heavy vehicle fit-for-purpose standards.
  • The role requires excellent leadership skills, including the ability to instil discipline, pride, and a safety-first mindset in the team.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings; CAD experience is advantageous.

This pivotal role combines hands-on technical leadership with strategic operational oversight, ensuring all projects are delivered to the highest standards, on time, and within scope.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Workshop Operations — Oversee all manufacturing and fabrication projects, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards and fit-for-purpose outcomes.
  2. Engineering and Design — Oversee and approve engineering design work, whether internal or through external contractors.
  3. Customer Liaison and Quoting — Work directly with customers on project scoping, technical queries, and job progress updates.
  4. People Leadership — Lead, mentor, and develop the workshop team, setting high standards for workmanship and behaviour.
Requirements
  • Trade qualification in heavy vehicle mechanics, fabrication/boilermaking, or heavy vehicle body building.
  • Minimum 10 years' experience in heavy vehicle manufacturing, assembly, or service operations, with at least 5 years in a supervisory or management role.
  • Strong knowledge of Australian Design Rules, compliance requirements, and heavy vehicle fit-for-purpose standards.
  • Experience in scheduling, resource allocation, and workshop workflow management.
  • Able to read and interpret engineering drawings; CAD experience advantageous.
