Behaviour Support Practitioner

Our Welfare and Engagement Team is seeking a Behaviour Support Practitioner to join our team at an Immigration Detention Facility in Northam, AU.

This role requires providing positive behaviour support services to detainees with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and other complex diagnoses.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide professional information and advice to detainees with complex needs, staff, and other relevant stakeholders regarding evidence-based approaches to reducing the impact and frequency of challenging behaviours.
  • Contribute to the overall success of welfare services available to detainees, conduct comprehensive assessments relevant to the detainee's presenting issues, needs, and circumstances as well as Functional Behaviour Analysis to assist in the development and implementation of the Detainee Behaviour Support Plan.
  • Support complex case reviews and provide support to site-based W&E personnel to identify and support detainees identified as at risk.
Requirements:
  • A degree in psychology, counselling, social science or a related field.
  • Ability to conduct functional behaviour assessments and design function-based behaviour support plans.
  • Experience using evidence-based interventions/strategies and a person-centred approach in managing challenging behaviours.
  • Minimum of 3 years (full-time equivalent) experience working as a Behaviour Support Practitioner and providing positive behaviour support.
  • Experience in working with people with complex needs, including complex trauma, adults, and the elderly with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disability, and other complex mental health diagnoses.
  • Experience in working with people from culturally and linguistically diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to develop and conduct psychological programs.
  • Understand the principles of Positive Behaviour Support.
  • Current First Aid (HLTAID011) and Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (HLTAID009) certification.
  • Working with Children Check relevant to individual states.
  • National police check (AFP).
  • Current Driver's Licence.
