Key Responsibilities:

  • Underwrite new and existing portfolios of business within set underwriting guidelines, authority levels, and service standards.
  • Mentor and develop Underwriters, reporting to senior management.
  • Maintain a professional approach in all internal and external stakeholder interactions.
  • Manage effective, efficient, compliant, and profitable underwriting for Arch Insurance under dedicated portfolios/products.

Senior Team Member Responsibilities:

  • Assist the manager in supervising team members in dedicated teams by providing training, guidance, mentoring, and assisting in providing feedback.
  • Support the manager in overseeing the work of junior roles.
  • Act as a local leader, being a role model, and providing guidance to team members.

General Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate effectively with other business units.
  • Adhere to company policies, procedures, and local guidance as well as to the legislation.
  • Perform other reasonable duties as directed by the business, within the scope of the role.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Experience working in the financial services, with knowledge in legislative frameworks.
  • Demonstrable ability to grow a profitable portfolio.
  • Experience in same or similar roles - minimum 5 years.
  • Tertiary qualifications - desirable but not essential.
  • Demonstrate a proven ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to develop and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • An organised and methodical approach to working practices and meet deadlines.
  • Extensive knowledge of the Australian insurance regulatory and compliance environment.
  • Sound analytical skills with the ability to prioritise while maintaining an attention to detail.
  • Enthusiasm and a desire to learn and contribute as part of a team, with the ability to work autonomously when required.
  • Active market presence and strong negotiation skills.
  • Ability to provide a high level of service to external stakeholders.
  • Ability to find solutions to complex underwriting problems within defined guidelines.
  • Demonstrable knowledge of products, underwriting practices, and market dynamics.
