High Performance Computing Administrator

About the Role:

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced High Performance Computing (HPC) Administrator to join our team. As an HPC Administrator, you will be responsible for providing high-quality support and maintenance services to our HPC environment.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead or assist system administrator activities supporting the Linux and software services in the HPC environment.
  • Provision and configure servers and services across a variety of platforms.
  • Write support and security documentation, and work cohesively with HPC Infrastructure project, technical and engineering staff, and stakeholder groups.

Additional Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with technical teams to develop and agree system integration plans and report on progress.
  • Recommend and implement improvements to processes and tools.
  • Undertake or supervise complex installations and de-installations of systems or components, including handover to the client.
  • Schedule installation work around client priorities and resource availability.
  • Ensure adherence to established safety and quality procedures.
  • Contribute to the planning and implementation of infrastructure/installations maintenance and updates.
  • Use infrastructure management tools to determine load and performance statistics.
  • Configure tools and/or create scripts to automate the provisioning, testing and deployment of new and changed infrastructure.
  • Investigate and enable the resolution of operational issues.
  • Prepare and maintain operational procedures for storage management.
  • Monitor capacity, performance, availability and other operational metrics. Take appropriate action to ensure corrective and proactive maintenance of storage and backup systems to protect and secure business information.
  • Create reports and proposals for continuous improvement.
  • Ensure that system software is provisioned and configured to facilitate the achievement of service objectives.
  • Evaluate new system software and recommend adoption if appropriate. Plan the provisioning and testing of new versions of system software.
  • Investigate and coordinate the resolution of potential and actual service problems.
  • Ensure that operational procedures and diagnostics for system software are current, accessible and well understood.
  • Ensure that all requests for support are dealt with according to set standards and procedures.

  • The HPC Infrastructure team is a small group of talented, highly motivated and dedicated IT Professionals.
  • They sustain, design and build high-performance computing infrastructure for production, test, development, and research functions supporting ASD's missions.
  • The team comprises ASD and industry people, who support all HPC systems, servers, interconnect fabrics, file systems, Operating Systems, virtualisation and container platforms in ASD's HPC environment.
  • The team works closely with software engineers, developers, data scientists and researchers who together underpin ASD's High Performance Computing capabilities used in signals Intelligence and cyber missions.
