About this Role

We are seeking a seasoned Legal Counsel to join our team. As a key member of the Legal team, you will play a pivotal role in delivering high-quality legal services that support our organisation's strategic and operational goals.

The successful candidate will report to the General Counsel and be responsible for managing a diverse portfolio of legal matters independently. You will provide expert legal advice to senior management and staff, represent the Council in hearings and forums, and draft complex legal documents including contracts, deeds, and voluntary planning agreements.

You will also guide and mentor junior legal staff and collaborate across departments to influence outcomes that shape the future of our city.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage a diverse portfolio of legal matters independently
  • Provide expert legal advice to senior management and staff
  • Represent the Council in hearings and forums
  • Draft complex legal documents
  • Guide and mentor junior legal staff
Requirements
  • A Bachelor of Law degree
  • An Australian Practicing Certificate
  • Experience in briefing external counsel and legal providers
  • Knowledge of local government operations in New South Wales and relevant legislation
