Senior Subsurface Data Specialist, Adelaide

A highly sought-after opportunity has arisen for a seasoned data management professional to join Santos Ltd. Based in Adelaide, and reporting to the Geoscience Data Team Leader, you will be responsible for providing expert data governance, processes, and management support services to the Operating Divisions. This involves developing and maintaining data governance standards, management procedures, integration strategies, and projects to enhance data connection, consistency, and integrity.
Key responsibilities include:
- Deliver expertise in geological data wrangling, analytics, and presentation.
- Develop and maintain processes for ensuring compliance to data management standards across master data stores for geological and petrophysical data.
- Mentor and guide peers and subsurface geoscience professionals in best practice use of data governance, management, and workflows.
- Drive innovation in data management processes, exploring new technologies and methodologies to enhance data integrity and accessibility.
- Identify and implement improvements and integrate new software to support automated processes, including data validation.
- Ensure alignment with key stakeholders across the subsurface geoscience community on subsurface geoscience data gaps and quality issues.
We are seeking a highly skilled individual with a Tertiary qualification in Geoscience, Data Science or Computer Science, and extensive oil and gas exploration and production industry experience at a major oil and gas company or application vendor. You will possess demonstrable expertise in data management and data governance, along with a robust understanding of SQL and databases, document management systems, and support tools. Experience in managing and leading projects is also essential.
A strong analytical mindset and familiarity with Petrel, Petrosys dbMap, Geolog, PowerBI, and Python would be advantageous. A background in data governance is preferred.
