We're seeking an experienced Risk Management Specialist to join our team. In this role, you will support the development of a positive risk management culture by assisting in the implementation of risk management initiatives, strategies, and practices across the organisation.


Responsibilities:



  • Assist in reviewing and updating the Council's Risk Management Framework to ensure consistent application across the organisation, proactively reducing or mitigating risk exposure.
  • Review and follow up on departmental risk management incident notifications to ensure timely response and resolution.
  • Conduct thorough risk reviews across the organisation to eliminate or effectively manage risk, ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Collaborate with the Risk Management Lead to deliver a comprehensive training program for management, staff, and contractors to meet their risk management obligations.
  • Maintain a Council-wide Risk Register to assist managers in performing their risk management responsibilities, including strategic and operational risks.
  • Coordinate the maintenance and review of the Council Risk System, incorporating corporate and departmental risk registers.
  • Assist in ensuring awareness of the Council's Fraud Control Policy and Fraud Control Plan, contributing to their review and update.
  • Support the Risk Management Lead in developing the Council's Legislative Compliance framework, monitoring activities for compliance with relevant legislative requirements, and managing the review and update of relevant documents and processes.
  • Coordinate internal audit activities to ensure efficient and effective management of risk.
  • Assist the Risk Management Lead in preparing reports to the Audit and Risk Committee, following up on action items raised.
  • Develop, implement, maintain, and provide advice on business continuity plans for the organisation, ensuring compliance with relevant standards and guidelines.
  • Support the Risk Management Lead in the annual renewal of the Council's insurance portfolio, including tender processing where necessary.
  • Conduct periodic insurance audits conducted by major insurers and review recommended actions for improvement.

About You:



  • Tertiary qualifications in Risk Management or a related discipline, or less formal qualifications with substantial relevant experience.
  • Experience in risk management, including privacy and Freedom of Information, with a strong understanding of relevant legislation and industry standards.
  • Demonstrated research and investigative skills, with the ability to prepare reports and policies.
  • Experience in auditing, insurance, and business continuity, with high-level written and verbal communication skills.
  • Able to review, interpret, and advise on contracts, agreements, policies, procedures, and standards.
