Job Description

We're seeking a Strategic Communications Specialist to join our Strategic Communications and Advocacy team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Contribute to the development and delivery of communications plans to raise awareness and inform our community about Council's services, programs, projects, initiatives, and events.
  • Provide strategic communications for key decisions of the Council.
  • Support the development, execution, and evaluation of strategic communications campaigns.
  • Support the development of high-level strategic communications advice for senior decision-makers on key issues, policy matters, and implementation priorities to support Council objectives.
  • Provide trusted advice and thought leadership to the Coordinator, Strategic Campaigns and Manager, Strategic Communications on a range of issues.
  • Support the strategic review of Council's communications tools and recommend and implement changes to ensure that they are engaging, innovative, targeted, appropriate, and cost-effective.
  • Participate in local, regional, and state networks/organisations to keep up to date with current communications trends, practices, and requirements.
  • Support the development of strategic reports and conduct key stakeholder briefings on high-risk issues to enhance the reputation of Council.
  • Develop high-level narratives, ensuring strong and consistent key messaging across all strategic communications activities.
  • Provide specialist writing and editing for a range of communications materials and channels that are tailored for various external and internal audiences and stakeholders.

Requirements:

  • Tertiary qualifications and/or substantial demonstrated experience in communications, public relations, marketing, emergency management communications, or a similar field.
  • A current driver's licence.
