The Support Worker role is a dynamic and forward-thinking position dedicated to providing support and services to individuals with physical and psychosocial disabilities.
We are committed to grassroots involvement in decision making and service planning as a registered provider under the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS).
The role has four key principles:
- Self-determination: Every person has a right to make their own decisions, and it should be assumed that all people with disability have the capacity to make decisions for themselves.
- Self-advocacy: Support Workers play an important role in supporting people with disability to realize and develop their capacity for self-determination to the maximum possible extent by encouraging confidence and providing opportunities for decision making, self-expression, and self-advocacy.
- Person-centred individual planning: The planning process for people with disability should be at the individual level and place a key emphasis on encouraging and supporting individuals to make their own decisions and advocate their own rights and interests.
- An empowering environment will be designed to empower people with a disability.
We are seeking casual Support Workers who can work across the Newcastle and Hunter region.
Applicants should ideally have previous experience as a support worker in the disability sector, experience in or understanding of the NDIS, a Certificate III or above qualification, completion of relevant NDIS learning modules, confident and professional communication skills, and excellent collaboration skills with an ability to develop strong relationships with key stakeholders.
