Volunteer Director

About the Role:

We are seeking experienced and committed individuals to join our Board as a Volunteer Director. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to the strategic governance of a values-driven organisation at a pivotal time of growth and transformation.

Nearly two thirds of Victorians volunteer regularly, and representing their interests as a peak body is a deep privilege and responsibility for current Directors.

We are building the strength and sustainability of volunteering by shaping the operating environment, making volunteering appealing and accessible to all, supporting and connecting those who lead volunteers, and elevating the value and recognition of volunteering.

The evolving board focuses on developing a high performing, strategically aligned board composed of professional directors with strong governance capability, strategic thinking, diverse experience, relevant qualifications, and commitment to ethical, inclusive, and impartial governance.

Main Responsibilities:
  • Provide strategic oversight and governance of operations and impact
  • Contribute to board discussions with insight, independence, and integrity
  • Support the organisation's mission, values, and strategic priorities
  • Ensure compliance with legal, financial, and risk management responsibilities
  • Champion diversity, inclusion, and innovation in volunteering
Ideal Candidates:
  • Demonstrated experience and knowledge in organisational governance
  • Appropriate qualifications or equivalent experience in governance, leadership, finance, law, policy, or related fields
  • Strategic insight into not-for-profit, community, or other volunteering sectors
  • Ability to think critically, ask the right questions, and engage collaboratively
  • A values-aligned approach to leadership and decision-making
  • A commitment to Volunteering and Volunteers, equity, inclusion, and cultural safety
What We Offer:
  • Attendance at regular board meetings (approximately 9-10 per year)
  • Participation in board subcommittees or working groups as required
