Overview

Strategic Finance Leader Role

The acquisition of conventionally-armed, nuclear-powered submarines is a transformative endeavour for Australia. The whole-of-nation effort to safely and securely deliver the cutting-edge nuclear-powered submarine program will have a lasting impact on Australia's economic and national security landscape.

This role offers a unique opportunity to contribute to work that will shape Australia's strategic and Defence outcomes. As a new agency, we are building teams from the ground up, and this is a chance to influence decision-making through the provision of expert financial support and advice.

As an EL1 working within the finance branch, you will strengthen your leadership and technical skills, providing accurate, timely financial information, analysis, and advice to support the delivery of budgets and outcomes. Your focus will be on developing and maintaining collaborative finance business partnerships, identifying financial risks and opportunities, and providing strategic financial advice.

While we offer flexible working arrangements, this position is based in Canberra, and the successful applicant will need to be located in Canberra or close surrounds.

Key Responsibilities
  • Developing, guiding, and leading high-performing teams to deliver quality outcomes aligned with strategic objectives and deadlines.
  • Cultivating and maintaining productive relationships with senior leaders across internal and external stakeholders, facilitating representation experience.
  • Exercising sound decision-making and judgement to provide expert policy advice.
  • Developing and maintaining collaborative finance business partnerships, including the provision of strategic financial advice and identification of financial risks and opportunities.
  • Complex financial problem-solving and issues management to support decisions impacting strategic, political, or operational outcomes.
  • Preparing briefs and reports to identify and recommend financial and budget management issues and new proposals.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • A comprehensive understanding of the Australian Government's financial framework and accrual accounting principles in a public sector environment.
