Key Roles and Responsibilities for Dementia Care Specialist
The Dementia Support Australia Team invites a passionate professional to join us as a Dementia Care Specialist. This is a fixed-term full-time contract until 2027, with relocation assistance available for those who relocate from outside of Melbourne.
As a Dementia Care Specialist, you will play a vital role in delivering our Dementia Support Australia Program. You will work collaboratively with colleagues to improve lives and implement best practices. Your expertise will empower others to support those living with dementia.
Responsibilities:
- Support families, caregivers, and clinical staff to understand how dementia impacts each individual.
- Equate carers and clinicians to prevent and respond to behaviour changes through modelling, coaching, and development of resources including behaviour support planning.
- Develop reports that are contextualised to individual situations and people, that effect change on the ground and improve quality of life for people living with dementia.
- Contribute to research, projects, and programs, working innovatively to meet the changing needs of the sector.
- Work on other projects and assignments as required and in line with areas of skill, expertise, and knowledge.
Requirements:
- Experience supporting people living with dementia – An understanding of dementia and a person-centred approach to care, with a genuine commitment to supporting individuals and their families.
- Relevant qualification in Allied Health, Nursing, Aged Care or Mental Health is essential.
- High level of negotiation, communication, and relationship building skills.
- Excellent problem solving and decision-making skills.
- Ability to prioritise multiple tasks and meet deadlines.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Current Australian drivers licence and willingness to travel.
- Empathy and patience.
