Job Title: Director, Strategy Branch

Leading the Department's strategic policy development is a key opportunity to shape high-level policy outcomes and drive the department's direction.

  • The role involves providing senior executives and ministers with integrated, forward-looking advice that tackles long-term strategic challenges and seizes emerging opportunities for the Portfolio.

We are seeking an experienced professional who can demonstrate exceptional leadership skills, build an inclusive workplace culture, and foster a positive, energetic team environment. The ideal candidate will have excellent stakeholder engagement skills, be self-driven, resilient, and able to work under broad direction to develop and implement complex policies aligned to Government and Department strategic priorities.

The successful candidate will also possess a strong understanding of and experience with Australian Government decision-making processes, including those relating to Cabinet and Federal Budget.

Key responsibilities include leading the development of strategic policy, undertaking research and analysis to identify trends and emerging issues, supervising and guiding staff in their work, supporting them to achieve outcomes, and building capability.

Maintaining awareness of policy work being undertaken in other relevant work streams and across the APS to identify interrelationships and impacts is also essential.
