As our Data Engineer, you will contribute significantly to lasting positive change, shaping the future of urban communities. This is meaningful, challenging and fulfilling work.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide prompt incident and problem resolution for the data platform while continuously enhancing its performance.
  • Implement and maintain ETL processes for seamless data integration.
  • Collaborate with the analytics function to guarantee the platform delivers required data and superior performance.
  • Develop, refine and enhance source code according to industry standards.
  • Conduct thorough code reviews to ensure exceptional quality and efficiency.
  • Maintain professional standards throughout the Software Development Life Cycle.
  • Design automated solutions emphasizing simplicity, scalability, predictability, efficiency, security, and maintainability.
  • Deliver improved deployment frequencies, accelerated time-to-market, reduced failure rates and shorter lead times between fixes.
  • Develop and deploy artefacts including views, analytical functions and stored procedures.
  • Continuously monitor platform infrastructure run costs to identify cost-saving opportunities.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science or a related field.
  • Proficiency in languages such as Python, Java, Scala or SQL.
  • In-depth knowledge of relational databases (SQL) and NoSQL databases.
  • Comprehensive understanding of data warehousing concepts, tools and best practices for handling large datasets is crucial for building efficient data pipelines.
  • Big Data Technologies: Familiarity with technologies like Spark, Snowflake, BigQuery along with cloud platforms AWS, Azure or Google Cloud. Snowflake or BigQuery experience highly beneficial. Also DBT, Tableau and Informatica.
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms for data storage, processing and deployment.
  • Ability to design efficient and scalable data models and schemas for various data sources and storage systems.
  • Experience working with business leadership to create data solutions meeting business needs and demonstrated expertise in identifying solutions that meet business goals.
  • Experience working with complex source systems, collaborating with developers and digging into system complexities to understand the intricacies of the data.
  • Experience integrating data from multiple sources.
  • Knowledge of data ingestion techniques and frameworks, including event, stream, file and database ingestion.
  • Passion for discovering and solving problems.
  • Self-motivated individual with excellent time management and organisational skills.
  • Accomplished and effective communicator at all levels and across all mediums.
  • Collaborative team player with an open mindset.
