Role Overview

The Australian Centre for Disability Law is a specialist state-wide community legal centre assisting people with disability and their associates through strategic legal advocacy and advice.

We are seeking students in their fourth year or above and students seeking to complete their Practical Legal Training component as volunteers at our office.

This role will provide valuable experience in social justice and human rights issues, as well as opportunities to develop skills in casework support, research, and law reform submissions.

Responsibilities
  • Client Engagement: Answering the phone and taking instructions from new clients
  • Referrals and Support: Providing referrals for people with disability and their associates, and assisting with advices and associated administration, including database entry
  • Casework and Advocacy: Casework support, including drafting and filing disability discrimination complaints
  • Research and Policy: Research and involvement in law reform submissions and community legal education
Qualifications and Skills
  • Interest or Experience: Interest or experience in social justice and human rights issues; experience in other community legal centres will be highly regarded
  • Academic Requirements: Students in their fourth year or above, or students seeking to complete Practical Legal Training component as volunteers
