Our organisation is currently seeking a Geotechnical Professional to join their technical services team. As part of our geotechnical support function, you will play a key role in ensuring the safe and efficient extraction of coal.

The ideal candidate will have a tertiary qualification in Geotechnical Engineering or a related field, along with minimum 3 years experience in open-cut coal mining. Strong interpersonal and teamwork skills are essential, as well as the ability to liaise with key stakeholders.

You will be responsible for monitoring, measuring and reporting geotechnical hazards, high wall mapping, analysis of dumps, pit wall stability and rock fall exposure. Additionally, you will work closely with site technical services, operations teams and geotechnical consultants to provide design and execution recommendations.

As a safety-conscious individual, you will be prepared to challenge the norm, drive continuous improvement and demonstrate experience in implementing best practice using a hands-on approach.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, measure and report geotechnical hazards
  • Conduct high wall mapping, analysis of dumps, pit wall stability and rock fall exposure
  • Install and monitor geotechnical devices such as IDS radar, Prisms and Piezometers
  • Work closely with site technical services, operations teams and geotechnical consultants
  • Provide design and execution recommendations
  • Review mine designs to ensure compliance with recommendations and update site plans and procedures
