Job Title: Operational Risk Specialist

Job Summary: We are seeking an experienced risk professional to lead operational risk and compliance initiatives in the Global Financial Markets business unit for regulatory projects and change. The successful candidate will be responsible for managing change across the end-to-end value chain.

Main Responsibilities:

  • Represent the 1LoD on change projects to ensure risks are appropriately identified and addressed while ensuring business objectives are met.
  • Document and assess the design effectiveness of controls, capturing any regulatory changes, and the impact of change is appropriately assessed within the risk & compliance appetite.
  • Ensure appropriate monitoring controls and KRIs are implemented to provide ongoing oversight of operating effectiveness.
  • Provide 1LoD input to issue prioritization and remediation, undertaking incident management and risk reporting when required.
  • Establish a risk-aware and safe escalation culture within Projects, collaborating across 1LoD and 2LoD to ensure all compliance obligations relevant to Financial Markets are incorporated into business unit compliance plans and supported by robust compliance processes.
  • Ensure Projects meet the minimum requirements for managing operational risk in Projects, including completion of the Risk Control Matrix.
  • Lead and supervise a small team of risk managers when required.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • Minimum 5 years of experience in Operational Risk & Controls in Institutional Banking / Financial Markets from either 1/2/3 LoD.
  • Capability to assess operational risks, design/test adequate controls, and assist with implementation as a 1LoD function.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide advice/recommendation on the design effectiveness of controls.
  • Outstanding ability to verbalize complex operational risk language to business leaders to ensure key messages are delivered and comprehended.
  • Pragmatic and self-motivated Risk Leader who's willing to get their hands dirty.
  • Knowledge/experience in global-scale regulatory reforms gained overseas is highly desirable.
