PhD Researcher in Life-Cycle Analysis for Low-Carbon Products

The Opportunity
Low-carbon products are emerging as front-runners in various markets due to their ability to provide direct substitutes for fossil fuels without requiring changes in engines and industrial processes. However, they are likely to remain costlier to produce than their traditional counterparts for at least a decade. In the short-term, the financial viability of captured carbon products relies on superior market conditions for lower-carbon products compared to their conventional counterparts.
Project Overview
This PhD study aims to develop and validate rigorous methods to confirm the carbon intensity of a range of low-carbon products and processes. The research will provide insights and guidelines for future development of these processes, contributing to the certification of low-carbon intensity products.
Key Responsibilities
The successful candidate will be responsible for developing and validating life-cycle analysis methods, conducting research, and collaborating with the project team. Essential skills include a background in Chemical Engineering, proficiency in MATLAB or equivalent programming languages, and a passion for environmental sustainability and circular economy. Strong communication skills and the ability to work independently and as part of a team are also required.
Selection Criteria
The selection committee will prioritize applicants who hold an Australian (or equivalent international) Honours or Master's degree in a relevant field, with a significant research component and first-class honours/H1 awarded. Applicants currently in their final year of an Australian Bachelor's Honours degree will also be considered, provided the degree is completed by the end of Semester 2, 2024.
