About the Commercial Building Inspector Role

This role is responsible for providing technical expertise and support to ensure the successful handover and acceptance of civil infrastructure assets delivered through major projects.

The Commercial Building Inspector will be the main point of contact between the Facilities and Projects teams, overseeing the identification, management, and resolution of all defects, outstanding issues, and handover requirements in accordance with maintenance and operational standards.

Additionally, you will ensure that assets are integrated into Metro's ongoing operations in a safe, compliant, and sustainable way, supporting the long-term integrity of the network.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Review and approve documentation related to project completion and asset handover.
  • Provide recommendations for approval of certificates and notices.
  • Assess and approve inspection reports and contractor work quality.
  • Coordinate and oversee the execution of inspections and investigations.
  • Monitor work progress, investigate failures, and manage corrective actions.
  • Identify and assess risks, support compliance initiatives, and ensure adherence to standards.

About You:

Tertiary qualification in Civil Engineering or equivalent discipline.Current registration with relevant authority as a building inspector.Significant working experience in similar roles within rail or infrastructure sectors.Strong knowledge of Australian Standards and ability to interpret engineering documents.Proven ability to assess technical risks, ensure compliance, and deliver quality outcomes.Effective communication and stakeholder engagement skills.A valid Victorian drivers license.
