About the Opportunity:

The Department of Justice and Community Safety has two ongoing opportunities for an Executive Officer to work across either Southern or Eastern Metro Melbourne. As a Senior Aboriginal Community Liaison, you will play a key role in providing support and ensuring the effective operation of the Aboriginal Advisory Committee.

About Us:

We use our extensive Government and Community networks to deliver initiatives including early intervention and prevention programs, diversion initiatives, and rehabilitation and reintegration support.

About the Role:

  • You will develop and maintain supportive linkages between justice agencies and community organisations, provide policy advice, implement the Regional Justice Plan, and promote all AJA initiatives within the region.
  • You will provide strategic and high-level advice to members of the Executive Management Team at the regional level.

This is an Aboriginal Designated Position, classified under 'special measures' of section 12 of the Equal Opportunity Act 2010. Only Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people are eligible to apply.

Your Key Responsibilities:

  • Provide key support, secretariat services, and advice to the RAJAC, including preparing meeting papers, agenda, venue, catering, and minute taking.
  • Maintain regular contact with the Chairperson South or Eastern Metropolitan RAJAC to uphold the partnership and implementation of AJA4.
  • Attend, participate, and support the RAJAC Chairperson's participation in AJA-related activities, including the Aboriginal Justice Forum, Koori Caucus, and Koori Reference Groups.
  • Actively promote the Aboriginal Justice Agreement and RAJAC Implementation funding grants Community Grants Programs in the region.
  • Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of the Koori community, both society and culture, and the issues impacting on it.
  • Demonstrate ability to communicate sensitively and effectively with the Koori community.
