Your Responsibilities

In this hands-on role, you will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team, overseeing and advancing a research and development initiative within our laboratory. Your responsibilities will encompass:

  • Providing expert guidance and direction to a team of physicists and engineers.
  • Designing and prototyping optical, mechanical, and electronic subsystems.
  • Enhancing and adapting atomic sensors for real-world applications.
  • Integrating, optimizing, and deploying atomic sensors in practical environments.

Qualifications

Your background is less critical than your ability to learn rapidly and demonstrate the following qualifications:

  • PhD in atomic, molecular, or quantum physics, with a minimum of 3 years of relevant academic or industry experience.
  • Experience with laser spectroscopy, laser cooling, and atom interferometry of atomic species.
  • Proficiency in programming and automation, particularly with Python for laboratory instrumentation, control systems, and data analysis.
  • Familiarity with ultra-high vacuum systems.
  • Experience with narrow linewidth lasers and frequency stabilization.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, capable of working both independently and collaboratively.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective collaboration with cross-functional teams.
  • Ability to obtain the necessary Australian government security clearance within a reasonable timeframe.
