Chief Instrumentation and Control Systems Specialist

As a seasoned instrumentation and control systems professional, you will lead field investigations and client interviews to determine work scope and cost estimates for projects' control systems aspects.
Key Responsibilities- Plans and conducts independent control systems work requiring sound judgment in the evaluation, selection, application, and adaptation of control systems engineering techniques, procedures, and criteria on medium-sized projects or assignments.
- Leads the design, development, modification, and evaluation of mechanical components and processes utilizing relevant Engineering Department Procedures (EDPs), design standards, and guides, as well as Bechtel Standard Application Programs (BSAPs).
- Communicates complex technical issues and recommends solutions to upper management, ensuring effective problem-solving and decision-making.
- Develops conceptual designs for control systems engineering projects or projects with specialized or unique requirements, applying expertise in control system and instrumentation design.
- Supports the preparation of estimates, staffing needs, and schedules, working collaboratively with project teams.
- Prepares or oversees the preparation of discipline estimates and work plans in accordance with project scope, schedule, and budget, ensuring timely completion and high-quality results.
- Interprets new or special regulations, codes, standards, criteria, and performance data, applying expert knowledge to ensure compliance and best practices.
- Coordinates with client representatives to obtain approval of control systems aspects of the work, maintaining excellent communication and stakeholder engagement.
- Conducts or leads special studies of new control systems engineering methods, materials, and techniques, driving innovation and improvement.
- Mentors control systems engineering personnel, providing on-the-job training and coaching for their professional development, and contributing to special technical educational and training programs as directed.
A bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 10-13 years of relevant experience, or 14-17 years of relevant work experience, are required for this role.
Required Knowledge and Skills- Expertise in control system and instrumentation design and integration in the Mining and Metals industry.
- Functional safety certification is mandatory.
- RPEQ certification is also required.
- Expertise in OT (Operational Technology) Cyber Security is essential.
- Expertise (including certification e.g. IECEx, ANZEx or AS/NZS 60079) in Hazardous Areas is necessary.
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative attitude are vital.
- Accountability and problem-solving abilities are also essential.
- Mentoring and coaching other engineers and designers are key aspects of this role.
