Job Overview

This role offers a unique opportunity to lead the establishment of an internal actuarial capability, shaping the future of actuarial services within a government regulator that oversees critical personal injury schemes.

The successful candidate will be responsible for designing and implementing a hybrid operating model, transitioning from a fully outsourced model to one that integrates external expertise with a new in-house team.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead the design and delivery of a hybrid actuarial services model.
  • Advise executive leadership on strategic direction, capabilities, and resources required for actuarial services.
  • Facilitate knowledge transfer from external consultants to the new internal team, ensuring continuity and an uplift in scheme expertise.
  • Develop and implement actuarial models and methodologies to support regulatory decision-making.
  • Provide advice on potential risks to the personal injury schemes regulated by the department.
  • Mentor and develop capability across the department, fostering a culture of collaboration and development.

Required skills and qualifications include a bachelor's degree in actuarial science with a professional qualification from the Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries Australia (FIAA).

Extensive experience in personal injury insurance schemes is preferable, along with a proven track record in establishing actuarial functions and uplifting capability within cross-functional teams.

Strong leadership and stakeholder engagement skills are essential, as well as excellent communication skills, including the ability to present complex information to a wide range of audiences.
