Medical Secretary Job Description

The Medical Secretary is a vital member of the healthcare team, responsible for ensuring seamless communication and administrative processes.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Welcoming patients and managing admission paperwork with professionalism and efficiency.
  • Scheduling appointments and preparing consult rooms to minimize wait times.
  • Assisting with billing, invoicing, and health fund checks to ensure accurate payment processing.
  • Maintaining smooth communication across the patient journey, addressing queries and concerns in a timely manner.
  • Performing general administrative tasks and correspondence to support the medical team.

This permanent part-time role offers a fortnightly rotating roster, allowing for flexibility in start and finish times. The ideal candidate will possess:

  • A warm, proactive, and organized individual with a genuine passion for patient care.
  • Experience in oncology or similar healthcare settings, although not essential.
  • Familiarity with Medicare, DVA, and private health insurance processes to provide expert support.
  • Exceptional communication and time management skills to prioritize tasks effectively.
  • Basic medical terminology and proficiency in Word and Excel to maintain accurate records.
