Job Description:

The role of a Horticulturist is multifaceted, encompassing the maintenance and improvement of parks, gardens, and landscaped areas. This entails ensuring that gardens are well-maintained in accordance with service requirements, rosters, and programs.

As a Horticulturist, you will be responsible for providing recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment, and improvement, and implementing these as required. Additionally, you will provide on-the-job skills development and training to staff.

You will also undertake risk and hazard assessments of all areas under your control, identifying and reporting any deficiencies and taking corrective action when necessary.

In this role, you will have the opportunity to work collaboratively with Council management, staff, customers, and the community to provide advice and assistance as needed.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Ensure gardens including annuals, native & non-native, high profile, traffic facilities and other landscaped areas are maintained in accordance with service requirements, service agreements, rosters and programs.
  • Provide recommendations for mulching, watering, maintenance, embellishment and improvement and implement as required.
  • Provide on the job skills development and training to staff.
  • Undertake risk and hazard assessments of all areas under the crew's control and where necessary take corrective action.
  • Identify, report and where possible rectify landscape deficiencies especially in the area of gardens & landscape area maintenance.
  • Provide assistance and advice to Council, management, staff, customers and the community when necessary.
  • Ensure all works under the position holder's control are completed within timeframes.
  • Finalise completion of works requests as allocated.
