About the Role

Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly skilled and compassionate Student Wellbeing Liaison to join our team at Deakin University. As a key member of our Student Psychological Programs and Services team, you will play a critical role in supporting the mental health and wellbeing of our students.

Key Responsibilities
  • Assessment and Support: Conduct thorough assessments of student distress, identify relevant contributing factors, and provide timely and effective support to students in need.
  • Education and Awareness: Educate staff and students about student mental wellbeing, health and wellbeing services, and promote a culture of support and understanding.
  • Record Keeping and Statistics: Maintain accurate and confidential student health records and statistics, in line with relevant legislative requirements and Deakin's records management policies.
  • Client-Centred Approach: Strive for excellence in service provision, seeking feedback from clients and using it to improve service delivery.
  • Advice and Support: Provide evidence-based advice and support to students, promoting value-adding insights and recommendations.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Engage with stakeholders through clear and accurate communication, using diplomacy, tact, and discretion when handling sensitive information.
Requirements
  • Qualifications and Experience: A relevant undergraduate degree and subsequent experience in mental health intake/triage, such as social work or psychology, welfare, counselling, mental health nursing, or an equivalent combination of relevant experience and/or education/training.
  • Skills and Abilities: Demonstrated practice in providing a client-centred approach, high-level professionalism, and ethical conduct. Experience in sensitively managing initial disclosures, including sexual harassment and assault, family/domestic violence, mental health issues.
  • Desirable: Experience working within a tertiary environment and collaborating with multidisciplinary services to enhance client health and wellbeing outcomes.
